Appearance
Lookwise Hero Honda Super Splendor is an upgraded version of Splendor series. However, it is a commuter bike with great looks and style. New decals are interspersed all over the new Splendor and the front mudguard has assumed more angular proportions. A handy lockable storage bin fills the large void between the fuel tank and the engine. The bike has an effective halogen-equipped headlamp of 12V/35W halogen bulb that enables better visibility during the nights. The skinny tank and seat blend with body colors, and the bike also has a chrome filler lid. The side panels are contoured with a difference, although the tail fairing is similar to the original Splendor model. Alloys wheels are also equipped for style-lovers and if opted it adds to the beauty of the machine. Among the best features of the Hero Honda Super splendor include matt-finished silencer with chrome-plated heat shield adds a zing to the bike’s look, electric switches on the bike are extremely user-friendly, tubular double cradle chassis delivers a steady ride. The dashboard is comprised of fuel gauge, tripmeter and speedometer in analogue format. It also incorporated with neutral indicator and high beam indicator. At the lower part of it, there is arrow shape side indicator. Some safety features included here are pass switch and push cancel indicator switch, muffler with heat shield etc.
Levers and grips are classy articles and completely revised switchgear is a real breeze to live with — high and low beam simply available at the push of a button instead of a switch. A pass-light flasher has been incorporated and all the switches work with a precise and comfortable feel. The skinny tank and seat seem identical to the Splendor units. While the Super Splendor's side panels are contoured with a difference, the tail fairing is nearly similar to that of the original Splendor. A stylish black silencer with a attractive chrome heat shield is placed to make it different. The Super Splendor comes with Hero Honda's time-tested riding position from the older bike and feels very comfortable. The seat is narrow and a bit stiff with matters compounded by a poor ride.
Engine
This Bike comes with 125 cc new generation quantum core engine that promises great fuel efficiency and a smooth riding experience. Its 4-stroke single cylinder engine generates a maximum power of 9 bhp @7000rpm. The Super Splendor engine is revised. This four-stroke comes with the option of a self-start, or fires to life via a heavy and rather mediocre-feeling kick-lever. The punchy exhaust tune all through the rev band is similar to the original Splendor. The most visible change to the air-cooled, single-cylinder motor that thrusts its head out forwards, is an alloy long-stroke cylinder lump. The engine uses a pair of valves driven by a single overhead camshaft and has adopted the now-regular roller bearings for its rocker arms. The all-aluminum-cased engine uses an array of plumbing and electronics to help obtain good mileage and meet the country's uncompromising new emission norms. The Super Splendor uses a conventional slide-type carburettor and remains one of the few 125cc bikes in the country not to upgrade to a Constant Velocity (CV) unit. The handlebars steer neutral through any situation and the bike handles tautly lending credit to its flex-free, dual down-tube frame. At the same time, it imparts a pleasant light feel while tackling crowded city traffic.Tall gear ratios, roller bearings for rocker arms and slim tyres are the fail-proof formula Hero Honda has used to come up with the best possible mileage, in keeping with its Splendor lineage. The overall height, length and width of Hero Honda Super Splendor are 1095mm, 1995mm, 735mm respectively. It has a wheel base of 1265mm and kerb weight is 121kgs. It has a ground clearance of 150mm. Splendor Super comes with air-cooled, 4-stroke OHC engine with displacement of 124.7 cc. The engine uses a pair of valves driven by a single overhead camshaft and uses the now-regular roller bearings for its rocker arms. The engine has a support for single cylinder and the electrical specifications of Hero Honda Super Splendor are 12V/35W and CDI. Hero Honda Super Splendor develops 9bhp of peak power at 7000 rpm and generates a torque of 10.35Nm@4000rpm. It has 4-speed constant mesh type transmission. The front suspensions in the bike include telescopic hydraulic fork and the rear suspension includes swing Arm with hydraulic shock absorbers. This bike driving is a really pleasure. Nice gear shifting. Both the brakes are having the same specifications i.e. internal expanding type 130 mm Dia.
Acceleration
As per test figures, the bike takes 7.4 seconds for a 0-60 kmph dash while at 0-400m it can achieve in 22.4 seconds. The top speed is 98.7kmph. Braking 60 kmph (meters) 19.1.Fuel Efficiency
The bike delivers excellent figures in this critical aspect of a 125cc motorcycle. While running through the bowels of the city under the roughest traffic conditions possible, it turned out 55.9kpl, this rising to 58kpl when the bike's long legs were stretched out on the highway. However, the manufacturer claims it 70kmpl. The fuel capacity is 12 litres that saves frequent visits to the petrol pump.
Colours
The super bike of Hero Honda comes in five stunning shades. The colour options are cloud silver metallic, candy blazing colour, vibrant blue metallic and dual tone black. Body colour is mainly sprayed at petrol tank, front fender, front cowl and side and rear panels (but as stripes). Rear grab rail is in die– cast alloy in silver colour while the rear view mirrors in black shade. Available colours Are :
Brakes
The Super Splendor is blessed with conventional type brakes at both end. The brakes are expanding drum type. The brakes are good enough to halt the bike in average speed but if you go higher than 60 kmph, it will not work as good. So it is advised to operate both brakes at the same time for instant halt.Suspension
All the Splendor family bikes are fitted with same kind of shock absorbers. The front fork is telescopic hydraulic and rear one is swing arm with adjustable type. Although the suspensions are not much advanced but do their duty with utmost efficiency. Even at rough roads, they work properly.Wheels and Tyres
Like the brakes and suspensions, same sized tyres also remain the evergreen part and parcel of the Splendor bikes in India. The tyres specification are 2.75X18-4 PR/42P , front, and 2.75X18-6 PR/48P, rear, respectively. The bike is available is both multi-spoke and alloy wheels options.
Wheel Base and Controlling
The Super Splendor is blessed with the largest wheelbase among the Splendor bikes. The wheelbase of the bike is 1265mm which ensures better stability and grip on road. However, the other Splendors are having less wheelbase and has to face the problem of vibration and less grip on road that increase chances of skidding.Comfortness
The bike is bigger in terms of size, weight, fuel tank, wheelbase etc. So all these bigger parts help the bike to stable in a firm way on road and thereby support the ride to handle the bike in a better way. The seating position is upright and comfortable. Even when you go for a long drive, fatigue and tiredness will not come. Thanks to the innovative suspensions and seating arrangements. One can also get to know about the fuel consumed and speed of the bike. As a result, you will be already knowing that when your fuel tank is going to empty. Footrest, footpegs and grab rail is provided for the comfort of passenger. Self start option is incorporated in the bike for easy and instant starting. You can also use the kick start option when low battery or bad weather.
Pros
The best commuter bike with good mileage, control and somewhat stylish with new features.Cons
The Hero Honda Super Splendor is expensive than its competitors. The shocks can be complimented with Gas Shocks as some of the contemporary bikes have, this will obviously enhance the riding quality. The initial pick up also can be improved a lot when in comparison to say a Bajaj Discoverer or a Honda Shine.Hero Honda Splendor Super models
