The Motorola ROKR E8 measures 115mm x 53mm x 10.6mm and weighs 100 grams. The keypad doesn't have any numbers, or even any keys. Inplace of this there are three columns of raised dots where you'd usually expect to find the keys. The virtual keypad has several different sets of keys that it can display. The first are the regular numeric keys which display numbers and letters. The second are the music controls keys. The third are the camera controls keys which operates the camera and video camera keys. There are a few dedicated keys on the phone, such as the music key that takes you directly to the music player, and the clear and back key for moving backwards through menus or deleting text.
In the middle portion of the device there is a silver circular arc, called as the 'FastScroll' navigation wheel, which operates just like the scroll wheel on an iPod. However, the FastScroll navigation wheel is also speed sensitive. The d-pad is slightly rough, whereas the rest of the fascia is made from a glossy plastic.
In the centre of the phone's d-pad there is a small silver circle, which you can view the position of the d-pad's select button. Just above the FastScroll wheel phone's display is located. The display is a 2.0 inches QVGA 240 x 320 pixel that is capable of showing up to 262k colours. Just above the display is the device's earpiece with a metallic Motorola emblem. This same metallic looking plastic is used on the phone's volume and camera keys that is located on the upper left side of the device. It is also used on the device's power and keypad lock switch that is located on the right side of the handset. Above this switch, there is a micro-USB and charging port, which is covered by a small plastic door. The bottom of the phone houses only a small hole for the microphone, and the 'ROKR' logo that is engraved onto the casing. The top of the device houses a lanyard fixing at the top left corner, and a headphone port in the middle that is covered by a flap.
The rear of the phone is clad in a rubbery soft-touch paint, with another metallic Motorola emblem located in the middle. Towards the bottom of the phone there is a slit in the case with a red mesh inside.
Music
MOTOROKR E8 comes equipped with a built in music player that comes complete with music mode controls which allows the user to enjoy their music easily. The user can transfer music files from other compatible devices or download more music onto their Motorola ROKR E8.
The phone is compatible with Windows media player 11 which allows the user to transfer music files from their PC onto their ROKR E8. The music player supports all popular music formats. The inbuilt FM radio allows the user to get tuned to their favourite radio stations with ease. The ringtones can also be changed and downloaded according to the users taste and choice.
